I almost outed myself as gay to my co-workers today because someone had the audacity to say that 1) Warren Peace was the hottest (pun not intended) character in Sky High and 2) that they didn’t like the plant girl Layla from the movie.
LAYLA WAS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE YOU CANNOT SAY THESE THINGS. YOU HAVE INSULTED MY ENTIRE EXISTENCE.
Sky High (2005) was a allegory for coming out. His dad pressuring Will to come into his powers, and moreso to be super strong while his mom reminded his dad that he might be able to fly instead was their struggle between wondering if he was gay or straight. Will being able to both fly and be strong was a metaphor for him being bi. Layla was a lesbian experiencing comp het shown by her rejecting her powers and by dating her best friend whom she would eventually break up with to date a cute girl.
Sky High would’ve been a better movie if Will had never gotten his powers but still ended up saving the school along with Layla and Warren and the sidekicks just saying

layla is a lesbian afraid of using the word lesbian and hides it with the “i don’t like labels” and “we’re all people” talk
warren peace is a gay man and he has the hots for will

the first time will’s dad takes him to the secret sanctum and he tries to tell him he has no powers, but can’t do it is literally how it feels to chicken out of coming out

dad: “oh no of course not.”
will: “so you would be fine if i was a sidekick?”
dad: “yeah sure i guess.”
will: “that’s good then because i am.”
dad: “am what.”
will: “a sidekick.”

In the end, my girlfriend became my arch enemy, my arch enemy became my best friend, and my best friend became my girlfriend. But, hey, it’s high school.
Honestly why do Marvel and DC even keep trying, the best superhero movie ever has already been made and it’s called “Sky High”.

come on even the flash ships layla/warren. that’s why danielle’s character was with ronnie, one half of firestorm, because they watched sky high and knew that she was supposed to be with the guy that shot flames out of his hands
It’s been 11 yrs and I still get goosebumps watching the scene in sky High when penny pisses Layla off and Layla owns her multiple asses with her go green Armageddon
